Every organism contains a genetic program that regulates the fate and life span of every cell. Apoptosis is an organized form of cell death required for development and renewal. In contrast, necrosis is a traumatic cell death that results from acute injury. Apoptosis (from Greek: fall) is part of the cycle of nature where death is an integral part of the life chain. Necrosis is its disruption.
The exhibition Necrosis concerns the collapse of systems that result when both natural and urban environments can not contain the crisis of the individual. Similar to the waste left by necrosis, the presented work portrays the memories that failed to "recycle" after the collapse.
Galia Offri's paintings portray the silence of the aftermath. In the psychological aspect the collapse leaves a residue of memory. Those memories rise and threaten the existing order.
Nivi Alroy's sculptures and monoprints are wounded architectural environments on the constant verge of collapse. The objects explore the anatomy of a malfunctioning domain composed of rubble, the reminiscence of broken intimacy.
